    Announcing Tanasi Journal

In September 2005, Wisdom Keepers, Inc., published the first issue of Tanasi Journal. Tanasi Journal is the southeast's first and only regional American Indian newspaper.

Tanasi Journal's focus area includes American Indians living in or original to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The original homelands of 167 tribes, the region is home to over 677,000 American Indian people living in urban areas or within the traditional communities of 10 federally recognized nations and 29 state recognized nations.

The project was funded in part by a grant from the Appalachian Community Fund. Annual corporate sponsorships are available for a donation of $500, $1000, or $2000. For more information on corporate donations, please contact Kay Oxendine.

The newspaper is monthly, printed in a 6-column format on broadsheet, and is staffed by over 30 volunteers from across Indian country. Advertising and subscription rates are available at www.tanasijournal.com.
