In 2007, we found and took to heart two stories: Growing Good Corn from James Bender's 1994 book, How to Talk Well, and the Daffodil Principle by an unknown author. We spent most of 2008 reflecting on those stories, counseling with elders, evaluating our progress to that point, and envisioning what role we felt we could play in the future.
The two stories talked about lessons we feel are central to effecting positive change - sharing ideas, efforts, and resources, and the power of perseverance and commitment. The two stories became even more poignant with the advent of the 2008 election results, economic crisis and the first bailout. If there was ever a time for sharing ideas, efforts and resources, the time is now and we can't think of a better example of the power of perseverance and commitment to a cause than the election of this country's first president of color. So if you're thinking things are starting to look a little "corny" around, here, you're right! We've made "Growing Good Corn" not only our mission, but our vision and our values, and we're planning on applying the Daffodil Principle to carry them out. We want you to grow with us. - Register a free subscription to this site: By subscribing to our site (there's no cost or obligation), you can let us know more about your interest in our organization and programs, sign up for newsletters that keep you informed about our organization and notify you about upcoming opportunities, and take advantage of other special features that will be made available to registered site subscribers in the future.
